A promising career opportunity exists with a dynamic agribusiness in the Vyeboom area near Villiersdorp for an Assistant Logistics Manager who enjoys a rural environment and has a hands-on approach.

This position will report to the Logistics Manager and the main function of this position is to ensure the efficient transport of people, fruit and goods for the company whilst utilising a fleet of company owned vehicles and a team of heavy-duty drivers. It is of the utmost importance to ensure sustainability and safety when transporting employees and fruit, through effective strategic planning.  This is a growth opportunity for someone with a passion for logistics as the successful candidate will be groomed into the position of Logistics Manager over the next year.

You would be the ideal candidate if you have the following qualifications, experience, and key competencies:

Qualification

  • Diploma or Degree in Logistics Management or similar relevant qualification

Knowledge and Experience

  • Computer literate in MS Office (advanced Excel skills)
  • 1 – 2 years’ experience in logistics management
  • Extensive transport Industry Knowledge
  • Logistics and transport experience in the agricultural industry will be advantageous
  • Leadership skills will be advantageous

 Duties and Responsibilities

Human Resource Planning and Management

  • Managing and development of employees reporting to this position
  • Planning and management of employee leave and overtime
  • Maintain driver development pipeline

 Seasonal Planning

  • Accurately estimate the resources needed per grower per season
  • Calculate a cost estimation to set tariffs for the blueberry season
  • Facilitate SLA sign off from growers

Strategic Planning

  • Compile and submit 3-to-5-year plans for department’s human resource requirements, transport of labour and transport of fruit
  • Compile a replacement plan for vehicles

Budget Planning and Management

  • Compile annual budget and submit budget to EXCO
  • Manage and monitor budget monthly

Fleet Maintenance Management

  • Oversee roadworthy, licencing and maintenance of the fleet vehicles

Process and system administration

  • Review processes annually to ensure that they are in line with best practice and compare with other processes with other industries to stay relevant

Health and Safety

  • Create and monitor awareness of health and safety and ensure adherence to health and safety regulations

Manage department costing

  • Compile monthly invoicing of berry and pome transport to growers
  • Compile monthly interdepartmental costing based on e-logbooks

Monthly Reporting

  • Reporting to Exco on utilisation of drivers and vehicles, year on year comparison on trends, budget feedback

Dispatch Department

  • Maintenance and Management of forklift equipment
  • Managing the dispatch process for Blueberries
  • Invoicing of dispatch charges monthly to packhouse

Fuel Management

  • Check availability of fuel and ordering of fuel for all depots
  • Capturing of delivery notes
  • Managing the interdepartmental invoicing of fuel
  • Managing the fuel tag process
