An exciting position is available at Chiltern Farms in the Vyeboom area, a growing fruit/packing company in Vyeboom, Western Cape. This dynamic Agri business emphasises modern agriculture through technology and continuous improvement. The purpose of the General Manager role is to oversee all three farming operations across our agricultural business. Reporting to the Managing Director, you will lead a diverse team, drive operational excellence, profitability and sustainable farming activities and contribute to the overall strategic growth/direction of the business.
Key Performance Areas
- Operational Management: Oversee the activities of farm managers, ensuring smooth operations across all farms, including planting, harvesting, irrigation, and pest control.
- Strategic Planning: Develop and execute farming strategies that align with the company’s goals,
focusing on efficiency, yield optimization, and sustainability. - Budgeting & Financial Oversight: Prepare and oversee farm budgets, track financial performance, and ensure cost-effective operations.
- Team Leadership: Provide leadership to farm managers and staff, fostering teamwork,
accountability, and continuous improvement. - Sustainability & Compliance: Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and regulatory standards while promoting sustainable farming practices.
- Vendor & Supplier Management: Manage relationships with suppliers and service providers,
ensuring timely and cost-efficient procurement. - Quality Assurance: Ensure that farm produce meets quality standards and market demands.
- Executive Collaboration: Participate in executive management meetings, providing insights and
recommendations for the overall business strategy - Innovation: Introduce and implement modern farming techniques and technologies to enhance productivity.
Role Requirements
- Education: A bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Agricultural Management, Agribusiness, or a related field.
- Experience: At least 10 years of experience in farm management, with a minimum of 5 years in a senior leadership role. Experience in pome and berry farming is highly advantageous.
Knowledge of modern agricultural practices specific to fruit
farming.
Additional Requirements:
- Proven experience managing large-scale operations in farm operations (pome and berry agriculture will be advantageous).
- Familiarity with modern farm technology and sustainability
practices. - Strong financial management and budget oversight control.
- Control of sound procurement practices and adherence
thereof.
